Amazon.com Product Description
Pioneer's GM-D8500M mono Class-D amplifier delivers 300 watts x 1 at 4 ohms, or 600 watts x 1 at 2 ohms. That's enough to provide your subwoofer with tight, efficient bass. Speaking of efficiency, the GM-D8500M's Class-D design means less energy is wasted, so you gain more power with a smaller profile. A built-in crossover and bass boost circuit let you dial in the bass content to suit your vehicle. A remote control for the bass boost is included.

Pioneer GM Digital Series Amplifiers

A Commanding Performance
Traditional analog amplifier designs are electrically and thermally inefficient--converting as little as 30% of their electrical power into acoustical energy, while the rest is wasted as heat. The dispersion of this excess heat requires large and heavy heatsinks, increasing the size and reducing the installation flexibility of a traditional analog amplifier. Pioneer's GM Digital amplifiers utilize Class-D amplifier technology to produce a compact, high-power amplifier that converts as much as 70% of its input power to sound.

Serious Sound. Small Space.
The compact size of the GM digital amplifiers enables them to be installed in more places in your vehicle. If you want your system to be heard and not seen, Pioneer's GM digital series is the perfect choice, as it's both small and powerful. The advanced circuitry of the GM-7500M model for instance, is 45 percent smaller than its analog counterparts, increasing your installation options in tight spaces. Now you can enjoy superior audio amplification and installation flexibility from a compact product.

Bridge Your System With Digital
The GM Digital line of amplifiers has already earned an impressive reputation with Pioneer retailers and customers alike. This year, for the first time, a full-range solution joins the digital line-up in the form of the GM-D9500F. You can now harness the compact, powerful qualities of digital design to create a full-range, fully digital system.

GM-D8500M Features

Efficiently Compact, Awesome Power
Class-D amplifiers overcome the inefficiencies of traditional Class-A or AB amplifiers. Pioneer's Class-D amps transform very little power into heat so a higher percentage of the power supply (67 %) is transformed into the load. This results in a very compact amp which needs less input power to produce very high output power. The Class-D amplifier's PWM (Pulse Width Modulator) modulates the original audio input signal with a triangulated signal wave which has a much higher fixed frequency. The result is a digital signal which contains both the input signal and a band of frequency components around the modulation frequency. A LPF (Low Pass Filter) then filters out the high frequency pulses and the resulting amplified output signal is then sent to the subwoofer and/or speakers.

Selectable 50Hz Bass Boost
Bass boost gives you more control over how your music sounds. It lets you set the optimal bass level for each speaker/sub connected to the GM-D8500M, so the tone controls from your headunit can do what they do best. And because this is variable bass boost, you can set the level between 0 and 12dB with the remote.

Built-In Crossover (40~240Hz Low-Pass Filter)
Built into the GM-D8500M is a very smart crossover network. It works like a gateway, routing the big bass signals (adjustable from 40 to 240Hz or lower, at -12dB/octave) and filtering out higher-frequency signals to that subwoofer. This optimizes your system's efficiency and delivers the best possible sound quality.

Speaker Level Inputs
What, you DON'T own a Pioneer head unit? Well, we won't hold it against you. In fact we'll even help you build onto your system. The GM-D8500M's speaker level inputs allow you to connect your OEM unit (or any unit that doesn't have the typical RCA-type inputs) without having to buy add-on adapters. So, the install goes faster, you save money, and you've got a Pioneer amp in your vehicle.

5 out of 5 stars Always been a fan of Pioneer   May 13, 2010

Great amp, great price, I have a pioneer champion series speaker and it works great. I have my set up for 2 ohm stable and the base is strong and consistent. I would recommend this amp to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Does the job for a great price!   April 20, 2010

You really cannot beat the price on this amp - and as for power, it works fine for me. I was looking primarily for a class F amp that would run cooler and fit in my cargo area (see pics I added). This fits nicely and runs very cool! I'm pushing a Dual cabinet with 2 12's and it has all the bass I could ever need. I'm running the remote this weekend and I'll add pics - that is a nice touch. My headunit has controls for the sub but the wired remote will be super-fast to adjust the bass on the fly. If you're an audiophile you'll prob do much better than I did for a setup....but I love the install and I did it all myself!

4 out of 5 stars Good for the money!!   April 14, 2010

I was really confused by this product. I had been looking at the Pioneer online store and I didn't see this amp. I was looking at the D8400M. I went ahead and purchased this amp because they had ran out of the 8400 at Pioneer and the description of this amp was exactly the same as the 8400. It turns out that it is basically the same amp. The only difference I could see was the power and speaker terminals are slightly different. I couldn't tell you about the sound because I've never heard the other one. Other than that, 1200 watts is laughable. You might be able to get 600 watts out of it if your settings on the amp and head unit were at maximum. I tried that and it sounded like crap, so I didn't even bother with testing the output. I'm getting almost 400 watts at maximum volume before distortion. I have all Pioneer components in my car now and it sounds pretty good. The results may be different for others because I'm running two 12s off of it. Maybe, I'll pick another one of these up so I can run an amp on each of them, but it sounds good for now. If you're looking for a cheap way to rock out in your car and still sound good, this is they way to go. I'll be happy for a while :)
